The Lighter Side of the Internet

So we all agree the internet can be a super terrible place. But selfishly, I try to ignore it, because you are what you pay attention to. Don’t feed the trolls, etc. Luckily, as the mirror of humanity all of our creations come to be, the internet has some fascinating loveliness that deserves our attention.

My youngest sister got me into the podcast Reply All, which, as you will see if you click that link, is:

“‘A podcast about the internet’ that is actually an unfailingly original exploration of modern life and how to survive it.” – The Guardian

They also send out a newsletter that’s usually called something like “stuff we love” or “our favorite things” where they just survey the staff and get some recommendations. Recommendations for basically anything – shows, movies, songs, bands, recipes, articles, apps…

Not everything will appeal to everyone, but they cover such a wide variety that I usually find something interesting. That’s where I discovered Patatap and Monument Valley (sometimes I really do do other things besides play on my phone, promise).

Then last Christmas I got my sisters scented fake flower tattoos from Tattly and ended up on their mailing list. And even though I’ve only bought something from them that one time, I’m not generally interested in tattoos or fake tattoos, and I recently purged my inbox of marketing lists, I kept Tattly.

In fact, I open pretty much every email they send me, just because at the end of their marketing pitch they have a section called “fun things to click on” and it’s exactly that.

So hopefully that’s the future of marketing, or at least a way for your company to buy my goodwill (so cheap, I know). And I’ll try to have plenty of links to fun interesting things on here.

I’ll just leave you with one of millions of silly animal videos that you would never have seen if not for the internet and the lovably weird side of humanity.
